Ernesto Neto: The Edges of the World: Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre
In this, his most ambitious exhibition to date, Neto transformed the Hayward Gallery’s upper galleries and sculpture terraces with a series of interlinked installations representing three separate aspects of a city park: a monument, a garden walkway and a lake.
Visitors were able to explore a sequence of spaces that merged sculpture and architecture, animating the work by wandering through fabric installations, relaxing in cushioned soft spaces, ascending stairs into artworks overhead or venturing barefoot through an all-encompassing nylon vessel.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue accompanies featuring installation photography of the exhibition, an interview with the artist by Hayward Gallery Director Ralph Rugoff, and essays by Moacir dos Anjos, Philip Ursprung and Hayward Gallery curator Cliff Lauson.
