HAIM STEINBACH: SHOPPING, A CENTURY OF ART AND CONSUMER CULTURE: SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE, FRANKFURT, GERMANY
The exhibition ”Shopping”, presented and organised by the SCHIRN in collaboration with the TATE Liverpool, is devoted to the colourful world of consumerism that has become such a ruling factor in our lives. Shopping is a public ritual, a leisure pursuit, a hedonist act, and as such reflects the culture and values of our society. The exhibition documents 100 years of the fascination, the interaction and the convergence of fine art and aesthetics, and the subtle techniques of seduction utilised by our culture of consumption – from everyday commodities to luxury objects, from corner shops to megamalls.
”Shopping” is an exhibition of over 70 artistic positions including works by Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Gerhard Richter, Claes Oldenburg, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Haim Steinbach, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Andreas Gursky, Tobias Rehberger, and Damien Hirst.
