Bonakdar Jancou Gallery is pleased to present seven new works by the artist Charles Long.  Cast in vibrantly colored rubber, these various wall mounted compositions are generated through the repeated casting of two basic forms and the extensions which connect them.  Rubber shelves sprout blob-like appendages which dangle freely or find support on its s(h)elf of another nearby.  Fluid and bending, each composition exploits a set of formal opportunities through color, movement and pattern as they simultaneously play out a scenario of support, dependence, superfluousness and abandonment.  Also on view is the artist's "Intenalized Page Project," a limited edition portfolio of seven prints.

Recently, Charles Long was featured in the "Whitney Biennial" at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; "Best of the Season," at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT; and had a one person show at Fundação Cultural do Distrito Federal, Brasilia, Brazil.  Over the past year, Long's work has traveled as part of "Performance Anxiety," which showed at SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico after exhibiting at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.

Currently, Charles Long is participating in  "Crossings," at the Kunsthalle Wien, Austria. In October, Long will be the subject of a one person show  at The St. Louis Art Museum.  In November, the artist's work will be featured in "I Love New York," at Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany.
